Welcome to Davis-Monthan AFB
The annual Air Combat Command Heritage Flight Training and Certification Course was held at the Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson Arizona from March-2-4. The Heritage Flight training allows civilian and military pilots to train together in preparation for the spring and summer air show seasons. Heritage formations, during which modern and historic fighters fly together, are a popular highlight event at air shows throughout the United States and Canada.
The media was invited for one day to cover the event March 2. It was a bright sunny typical Arizona day.
This year's historic aircraft flying in the Heritage Flight training included the P-51 Mustang, the P-40 Warhawk, a very rare A-36 Apache, P-47 Thunderbolt, three F-86 Sabre flown by "civilian" pilots mostly retired USAF pilots. The ACC aircraft included the three F-4 Phantom II rarely seen together, A-10 Thunderbolt II based out of DM AFB, the four F-16 Fighting Falcons, the former East and West Coast Demo Team aircraft and the F-22 Raptor.
