The 2011 Koksijde International Airshow in conjunction with the celebration of the 65th anniversary of the Belgian Air Force, took place at Koksijde Air Base.
In prior years the "Koksijde International Airshow" attracted tens of thousands visitors from the four corners of Belgium as well as many from the neighbouring countries, and this year it was no different! The air show allows a stunning exhibition of flying aircraft displays, a wide variety of static aircraft for all aviation enthusiasts attending.
This year the audience was greeted to special overseas guests, the world famous USAF Thunderbirds. The public could also see other demonstration teams such as the Red Arrows, Saudi Hawks, Patrouille de France, Turkish Stars and solo performers including the Belgian F-16, Netherlands F-16, and Netherlands Apache AH64 Solo Team with their outstanding colour schemes.
The weather was an interesting mixture from sunny to cloudy, with some raindrops in between.
Wednesday’s show was continuous from 1 pm to 10 pm in the evening!! This was very interesting for the spectators especially when it included flares jettisoned by Apache from the Netherlands. Thursday’s show started earlier at 10 am and lasted until 7 pm. The programs were good, although with the sun being in front of the photographers it made getting good images a bit difficult. Also taxiing was far as well the main runway a bit too far from the spectators.
AirShowsReview would like to thank Mr. Peter Dewael from the Belgian Media Office in Brussel for his generous cooperation, hospitality and friendliness.
