The annual aviation gathering known as The Sun-N-Fun is a 6 day long affair in Lakeland, 20 miles east of Tampa, Florida. The event is held at the Lakeland Linder Regional Airport. The event is just more than an air show being very similar to the Oshkosh event held annually in Wisconsin by EAA Organization. The six-day event includes hundreds of exhibitors, displays, hot air balloons, and of course the weekend air show. There are hundreds of civilian aircraft fly-ins for this particular event and during the 6 days the Lakeland Linder Airport becomes one of the busiest airport in North America.
The event usually attracts over 150,000 spectators, and as at typical fly-ins there are a lot of civilian aircraft on static display, giving the ample opportunity to look at the different aircraft and to talk to their pilots. The some of the hydroplanes gathered around Lake Agnes, in Polk City, giving spectacular photographing opportunities. The event had a great shuttle service for moving the people around to all points of the event. Programs given to everyone of where the events were and what time. Show staff from top to bottom went out of there way to make sure everyone knew what was going on and when.
Weather was fairly good for the full week except for some strong winds early in the week and cloudy with a low ceiling on Sunday.
Show staff from top to bottom went out of there way to make sure everyone knew what was going on and when. The folks at the people at the Media Center were outstanding in providing the media with daily updates of what was coming up and where and also for making things too easy for the various media outlets. Someone was always there to answer questions or assist in getting rides for the media outlets to where they had to be.
Plenty food stand throughout the airport grounds just as importantly lots of sanitation facilities were provided.
Overall a great event and well organized for the size of it.
