The 12th Annual Indianapolis Air Show (first time for me but certainly not the last time) was the best air show I have attended in 2008 to date. It was very well organized, and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, unlike many other shows I have attended. I would like to thank particularly two of the organizers: first, Guy Eoff, The Flight Line Chairman, and secondly just as importantly Roger N. Bishop, CPBE of the Executive Committee. Great job, great organization and a GREAT show!

The line up for the show was quite impressive with something for everyone: WWII warbirds, trainers, modern jets including the F-22 Raptor, performers in the air such as the US Army Golden Knights Parachute team, hot air balloons, as well as on the ground such as the FMX Motorcycle Demonstration. There were several WWII warbirds with many flying on both days. On each day, near the close of the show there were pyrotechnics explosions to simulate bombing as the WWII bombers and fighters flew by. The weather was sunny, with pleasant temperatures. Although there were nearby thunderstorms, however no rain fell during the air show. It was just about ideal for photography.
My only slight complaint was that the aircraft flew a bit high on Saturday, but it was improved somewhat on Sunday.

Some of the participants were:

  • P-47D Thunderbolt, "Hun Hunter XVI"
  • Yakolev Yak-9
  • B-17G "Yankee Lady"
  • B-25 Mitchell "Axis Nightmare"
  • B-24A Liberator "Ol-927"
  • (4) P-51 Mustangs
  • Several Vultee BT-13
  • Supermarine Spitfire
  • Hawker Sea Fury Mk X
  • Nanchung CJ-6
  • LC-39 Albatros
  • T-33
  • F-100 Super Sabre
  • F-16 Viper
  • F-22 Raptor
  • USAF Heritage flight
  • and the list just goes on and on! WOW!
Rating: 9.7 out of 10
The highlight of the show was the simulated bombing run by the warbirds on both days of the air show.
