Patch of the Belgian Helidays 2017

This year, the Belgian Air Force organized the "Belgian Helidays" at the Beauvechain Air Base. On April 12th, the air base was open to the public. April 11 was "arrival day" for helicopters from 7 countries (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, France, Netherlands, and United States of America).

A limited number of about 400 aviation enthusiasts and spotters were given the opportunity to take photos of the helicopters flying in and hovering close by to their parking position. Another kind of action was the presentation of a Combined Air Operation (COMAO). Under aerial cover by an US Army AH-64 Apache and an A109 helicopter with a door mounted machine gun along with a pair of Belgian F-16s, a NH90 TTH from the 18th Squadron, impressively demonstrated the insertion and extraction of a Special Forces team in a hostile environment.

The highlight of the day was the sunset/night shooting of an A-109 and a NH90 with their electrical systems powered up and the helicopters illuminated by spotlights.
